How can I deal with incompetent people without having to hurt their feelings/ esteem? How can you get a lazy employee be the best or at least as hardworking as you? How can you trust a person if they were caught lying most of the times? - These are the questions that bothers me these days after reading the tale of the two workers.
Here's the summary of the story . . .
A known family have 2 workers. Each have different characteristics and level of competence. Worker 1 has been a member of the family's working force 7 months earlier than worker 2. Worker 1 is known among the rest of the workers as an incompetent, fond of lying, backbites a lot and slow. Worker 2 on the other hand, has been silent, doing his job as what is expected and have been known to be an achiever and stands for what is proper.
Being new in the family, Worker 2 chooses his words and actions. He have been very careful not to offend anyone and have been keen in observing the people around him. Of course, he heard a lot of stories about worker 1 but he choose to be impartial.
One day, Worker 1 wanted to take a break from work at the expense of worker 2. He convinced worker 2 to cover up his time so as the masters wont notice his doings by producing the expected outputs on time. Worker 2 realizes that by doing so, it would tire his body a lot and would give him at most 3 hours of sleep every day. Being weary, worker 2 disapproved and asked worker 1 why he wanted to take his leave without proper permission from the masters. Worker 1 began telling worker 2 his reasons and convinced him again to do the work for him. After hearing out his reasons, worker 2 noticed inconsistencies on it and told worker 1 that he wont do it and was upset by trying to outsmart worker 2. Worker 1 then felt embarrassed after being caught that his reasons were merely lies and shallow.
Worker 2 have proved to himself that what others were telling him were facts. Still, being a good and careful human being, he choose to shut his mouth and never told their masters not only the attitude of worker 1 but also his poor performance in producing outputs.
